After a meeting of EU foreign ministers, European diplomat Josep Borrell said it is unacceptable to compare the situations in Ukraine and Israel in the context of airspace protection by the allies.
He believes that it is impossible to compare Iran's attack on Israel, during which Western allies helped to shoot down missiles and drones, with Russian attacks on Ukraine, calling them "two different things that cannot be compared."
Borrell reminded that Israel has a multi-level air defense system called the Iron Dome, and emphasized that deploying a similar system in Europe would require significant time and financial costs that are not currently available.
"During the Iranian attack, missiles flew over air bases belonging to France, the United States and Jordan. And they also defended their bases. Ukraine does not have that. There are no air bases belonging to the United States, Great Britain or Jordan," the diplomat said.
At the same time, he emphasized the importance of strengthening Ukraine's air defense capabilities for the European Union.
"On Monday (April 22), when the EU defense ministers meet, I hope that we will have sufficiently concrete commitments in this direction," Borrell said.
