Five people died as a result of the shelling of Odesa, wrote Andriy Yermak, head of Vladimir Zelensky's office. Among them is a three-month-old baby.
According to Yermak, 18 people were injured. The debris removal of the affected houses continues.
Earlier, adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko in his Telegram channel wrote about the death of a resident of Odesa in his car: it burned down after a missile hit.
According to the "South" operational command, the strikes on Odesa were carried out by Russian Tu-95 strategic aviation planes from the Caspian Sea. The command said that two missiles destroyed Ukrainian air defense forces, while two more missiles hit a residential house and a military facility (which facility in question was not specified).
"The only purpose of the Russian missile strikes on Odesa is terror. Russia should be recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism and should be treated accordingly," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba wrote about the attack.
State Emergency Service rescuers went to the scene despite the threat of repeated rocket attacks by Russian troops.
The Russian military has not yet commented on the strikes on Odesa.
On the previous day, Rustam Minnekaev, the acting commander of the troops of the Central Military District, said that Russian troops see the task of the second stage of the war in Ukraine as establishing full control over Donbas and southern Ukraine, providing a land corridor to the annexed Crimea and access to the Moldovan borders.
This formulation suggests a plan to seize or at least blockade Odesa.
