About 40% of the residents of Mykolaiv have left the city due to the constant shelling of Russian troops. This was stated by the mayor of the city Alexander Senkevich.
"Before the war there was about 500 thousand people in Mykolaiv, we have a city of half a million people. There is no exact data on the number of people who left, we do not register such data, but according to the amount of garbage collected and the use of drinking water - 40% of the residents have already left the city," Senkevich told Belsat TV channel, the video of which is published in his Telegram.
According to him, if a month ago it was difficult to leave Mykolaiv, today it is possible to leave the city, and the city authorities provide free transport to evacuate the population.
"Today you can leave the city. A month ago, Nikolaev was taken in a ring. Since the city is on two rivers, the Russian occupiers crossed one river and began to build bridges on the second, but were defeated and pushed back into the Kherson region. Today we have an open road to Kropyvnitsky, Kriviy Rig, and Odesa as well. For free evacuation we provide our buses, which were used for intracity transportation, "- said Senkevich.
According to him, about 12 thousand residents of Mykolaiv have already used this service.
