Verbal escalation does not help Ukraine - Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron justified his decision not to use the word genocide in reference to Russian actions. He said that "verbal escalation" would do nothing "to help Ukraine," Le Point reported.

"The word genocide has meaning and should be qualified by lawyers, not politicians," Emmanuel Macron said during an election trip to Le Havre.

According to him, states that consider it genocide should, under international conventions, intervene.

"Is that what people want? I don't think so," Macron said, adding that such an intervention would turn them into belligerents.

"Everyone should know how to keep their minds, verbal escalation does not help Ukraine," he said.
