Chancellor Scholz expressed irritation at Kyiv's refusal to host Steinmeier

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed irritation with the official Kyiv's refusal to receive President Franco-Walter Steinmeier. Scholz said this on the air of RBB 24.

The chancellor is not currently going to Ukraine because, as he explained, he was in Kyiv a few days before the war began. He also said that he often calls President Volodymyr Zelensky by phone. But his invitation to Kiev has so far been declined.

"There is hardly a head of state or government that has such intense contact with me," Scholz said.

He noted that Kyiv's decision not to accept Federal President Franco-Walter Steinmeier has confused and infuriated him.

"It would have been nice to accept him," Scholz commented briefly.

In addition, the Knutzler did not want to explicitly agree with U.S. President Joe Biden's assessment that Vladimir Putin's war against Ukraine was genocide. But he did note, "This is a terrible war in Eastern Europe. And I think that's something that should not be belittled. It's a terrible war and war crimes are being committed."
