The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the statement of French President Emmanuel Macron, who called Ukrainians and Russians "brothers," reports UP.
"Ukraine and Russia are historically close for objective reasons, but the myth of two fraternal peoples of Russia and Ukraine began to crumble after the occupation of Crimea and aggression in Donbass in 2014," said Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko.
According to him, then Russian "brothers" allegedly came to defend the Russian-speaking population. But in eight years they killed 14,000 Ukrainians.
"This myth was finally shattered when the first Russian missiles flew on Ukrainian cities in February. "Brotherly" people do not kill children, shoot civilians, rape women, maim elderly people, or destroy the homes of other "brotherly" people. Even the most fierce enemies do not resort to atrocities against defenseless people," emphasized Nikolenko.
He added that so far there is no moral or real reason to talk about "brotherly" ties between the Russian and Ukrainian peoples.
A representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also said that Macron's unwillingness to recognize the genocide of the Ukrainians was "disappointing.
