French President Emmanuel Macron refused to use the term "genocide" about Russian brutality in Ukraine.
This was reported by CNN.
"I will be careful with such terms today because these two peoples (Russians and Ukrainians) are brothers. I want to continue to try, as much as I can, to stop this war and restore peace. I'm not sure that escalating rhetoric serves this cause," he said.
Macron said that "it is safe to say that the situation is unacceptable" and called the actions of the Russian occupiers in Ukraine a war crime. He also noted that France is cooperating with Ukraine to investigate Russia's likely crimes against Ukraine.
"Russia unilaterally started an extremely brutal war, now it has been established that the Russian army committed war crimes, and now we must find those responsible," he said.
