Friday, U.S. President Joe Biden signed two bills imposing additional sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
This was announced by the White House.
One of the bills suspends normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus, paving the way for higher duties on imports from them.
Another would ban energy imports from Russia, including oil, coal and natural gas.
The Senate unanimously approved the two bills Thursday morning.
Earlier this week, the Biden administration announced additional sanctions against major Russian financial institutions and several individuals associated with the Kremlin, including two daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The U.S. also announced sanctions against the wife and daughter of Putin's foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov.
The U.S. Senate also unanimously passed a lend-lease bill for Ukraine that would allow President Joe Biden to more effectively send weapons and other supplies to Ukraine amid the Russian invasion.
The House must now consider the bill and Joe Biden must approve it.
