Foreign Ministry responded to Orban's statements about "fighting Zelensky" and voiced expectations from official Budapest

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has rejected accusations by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski allegedly obstructed the re-election of his party. This was stated by Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko, reports UP.

"We respect the will of the Hungarian people in the parliamentary elections. At the same time, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has no reason to claim that he had to fight the president of Ukraine on the way to winning the election," he stressed.

First, Nikolenko noted, Ukraine was in no way involved in the political campaign in Hungary, especially in the context of a full-scale war with Russia, and that Budapest must understand that the war did not come under the Hungarian border thanks to the heroic resistance of Ukrainians.

"We hope that the new mandate will allow the Hungarian government, among other priorities, to focus on countering the aggressive policy of the Russian president, on whose orders the Russian army commits atrocities against the Ukrainian people, and the facts of Russian war crimes against civilians, primarily in Bucha, Irpen and Gostomel, made public on Hungarian election day, will not go unnoticed. We expect that Budapest will clearly condemn these crimes and reconsider its approach to assistance to Ukraine so that it corresponds to the current realities, the level of security threats from Russia and the level of atrocities of the Russian army," Oleg Nikolenko said.

He added that without security in Ukraine there would be no security in Hungary and no security for Ukrainian Hungarians whose identity Ukraine respects.
