Relations between Russia and the United States have sunk to the level of the Mariana Trench. The American ambassador to Moscow, John Sullivan, said this in an interview with Reuters.
"We are in the Mariana Trench (the deepest known on Earth) when it comes to diplomatic relations between the United States and Russia," Sullivan said.
Sullivan said he takes seriously the threats coming "from the very top of the Russian government" to cut off diplomatic relations, arguing that "the Russians don't engage in rhetorical outpourings."
"The United States doesn't want to close its embassy. President Biden doesn't want to recall me as ambassador. But it's not something that's necessarily up to us alone," the American ambassador notes.
Recalling his visit to Moscow in January 2020, John Sullivan notes that at the time, "it was very bad, and it got worse.
To recap, U.S. President Joe Biden did not announce any policy changes when he said that Putin "can't stay in power. But he's convinced that the Russian president can't be allowed to continue doing evil.
Furthermore, Biden called Putin a "butcher.
