The United States has no strategy for regime change in Russia, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Sunday.
He said this during a visit to Israel, the BBC reported.
"I think the president, the White House, last night said that President Putin cannot be authorized to wage war or engage in aggression against Ukraine or anyone else," Blinken said.
"As you know, and as you've heard from us repeatedly, we have no strategy for regime change in Russia or anywhere else. In this case, as in any case, it's up to the people of the country in question, the Russian people," he added.
To recall, in a speech in Warsaw on Saturday, Biden harshly criticized Putin for starting the war in Ukraine, calling him a dictator and a tyrant, and accusing him of war crimes. He also addressed Russian citizens directly, noting that the U.S. is not their enemy. Biden urged Russians to consider that the Russian state is now bringing death and destruction to Ukraine, and compared the events of World War II, which remain in the memory of many Russians, to the current events in Ukraine. "This war is not worthy of the Russian people," Biden said. Directly, he did not call on the Russians to disobey or do anything else.
