EU foreign ministers intend to discuss possible expansion of sanctions against Russia, especially in the energy sector and on the issue of the embargo on oil imports from Russia, EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrell said.

"We will continue to talk about which sanctions we can think about again, especially in relation to energy," he told reporters before the meeting of EU foreign and defense ministers.

Asked about the possibility of an oil embargo, in particular, Borrell said that "the ministers will discuss it".

Media reported earlier that the leaders of the European Union and U.S. President Joe Biden at the upcoming summits in the EU, "Big Seven" and NATO this week will consider further expansion of anti-Russian sanctions.

According to media sources, the EU is already working on the fifth package of sanctions, which may include an embargo on imports of Russian oil by the Union. Earlier, the US and the UK took such a decision.
