French President Emmanuel Macron in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed "extreme concern" about the situation in Mariupol. This was stated in the Elysee Palace, reports Ukrainska Pravda.
According to Le Figaro, Macron called for the "lifting of the blockade and access of humanitarian aid."
"The president asked for concrete and verifiable measures to lift the siege of Mariupol, open humanitarian access and an immediate cease-fire," the statement said.
During the new phone call, which lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes, Macron also demanded an immediate cease-fire throughout Ukraine.
A statement on the Kremlin website said that Putin told Macron of the "numerous war crimes committed daily by Ukrainian security forces and nationalists, in particular the massive rocket and artillery shelling of towns in Donbas."
Earlier, Mariupol Deputy Mayor Sergei Orlov reported that the city is currently 80-90% destroyed, the death toll has exceeded 2,300, but many are still under the rubble, so the death toll could be much higher.
