In Chernihiv, Russian shelling killed 53 people a day - head of regional administration

Fifty-three people were killed Wednesday due to shelling of Chernihiv by Russian occupation troops, said Vyacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv regional military administration.

"The enemy continues systematic artillery and aerial bombardment of our regional center, destroying civilian infrastructure. We are suffering heavy losses. In yesterday's day alone, the morgues of the city received 53 bodies of our citizens who died, who were killed by the Russian aggressor. And for every one of our citizens, we will avenge and kill," Chaus said in a video message posted to Telegram Thursday morning.

At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to him, continue to inflict heavy damage on the enemy in the vicinity of the city. At the same time, the occupation troops did not break through to Chernihiv itself, the head of the regional administration stressed.

Regarding the opening of a corridor for the evacuation of city residents, Chaus said that "today there will be another round of negotiations and the central authorities and local authorities are working on it together with the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine." "I do not want to send the children of the city of Chernihiv to certain death, so the "green corridor" will be exclusively after we agree. Today such negotiations will be held, how will end - we will inform you", - he said.

The head of the regional administration said that there are problems with energy, water, gas and heat supply in the city, while emergency crews and rescuers "under fire hourly trying to repair holes in the networks." "Not everything is as good as we planned, but not hopeless, as far as I'm concerned," he said.

Chaus also informed that some sheltering basements can still hold people without food and drinking water, with the Chernihiv City Council and volunteers working to provide food for people who are in shelters, and urged city residents to help with the identification of problem shelters.
