NATO has so far seen no sign of Russian withdrawal from Ukraine's borders or de-escalation. Russia's capability buildup appears to be continuing. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this after talks among NATO defense ministers.
"Despite Moscow's statements, we have yet to see any signs of troop withdrawal or de-escalation. On the contrary, Russia's buildup appears to be continuing. We continue to monitor developments very closely. We urge Russia to do what they say and withdraw its troops from the border with Ukraine. This would be an important first step toward a peaceful political settlement," the NATO Secretary General said.
He said that today NATO ministers met with their counterparts from Ukraine and Georgia.
The meeting reportedly addressed the continuing threat of Russian aggression, the deteriorating security situation in the Black Sea region, and NATO's strong support for both countries.
