The Telegraph: NATO prepares routes for transfer of troops to eastern flank in case of war with Russia

NATO is developing plans to transfer American troops and weapons to the eastern flank of the Alliance in the event of a large-scale ground war with Russia. This was reported by The Telegraph, citing unnamed sources.

The publication writes that the main route involves the landing of American soldiers in the port of Rotterdam and their further transportation to Poland via the Netherlands and Germany by rail. Negotiations are also underway to expand routes to other ports to ensure the stability of land lines of communication. In particular, the ports of Italy, Greece and Turkey are being discussed.

According to the article, from Italian ports, American troops can be sent by land through Slovenia and Croatia to Hungary. Similar routes are being developed to transport forces from the ports of Turkey and Greece through Bulgaria and Romania.

In addition, plans are being considered to move troops through the ports of the Balkans, as well as through Norway, Sweden and Finland.

Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank, NATO's logistics officer, said that ports in the Netherlands, Germany and the Baltic states are particularly vulnerable to Russian missile attacks. The reason, he said, is that the Alliance has only 5% of the necessary air defense to cover its eastern flank.

“Assessing the Russian war in Ukraine, we noticed that Russia attacked Ukrainian logistics bases. This leads to the conclusion that huge logistics bases will be attacked and destroyed first of all in a conflict situation. As for air defense, it is always not enough. I can't imagine a situation where you have enough air defense,” the military emphasized.
