EU will cope with reduced gas supplies from Russia - Head of the European Commission

Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Union will be able to cope in the event of restrictions on gas supplies from Russia. This was reported by Reuters.

"Our models in case of partial disruption or further reduction of gas supplies by Gazprom now show that we are rather in a safe situation," said Ursula von der Leyen.

She said the EU is negotiating the possibility of supplying liquefied and natural gas from the U.S., Qatar, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Nigeria and South Korea.

"We have also talked to major LNG suppliers to see if we can change contracts in favor of the EU," the European Commission chief said, adding that Japan is willing to do so.

Recall, Putin said Russia is ready to extend gas transit through Ukraine after 2024.
