Any attempts at further escalation by the Russian Federation against Ukraine must be stopped immediately, said Jüri Ratas, chairman of the Riigikogu (State Assembly) of Estonia.

"The war in Donbas has been going on for eight years, it must stop immediately," Ratas said at a joint briefing with Ukrainian parliament speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk on Tuesday.

He noted that Estonia gained independence 30 years ago and promised itself that it would never be left alone with its problems. "We have done much to become a reliable ally and partner for the countries of the European Union, to build our cooperation and become an integral part of the European security architecture. Today we promise Ukraine: we will not leave you alone," stressed Ratas.

In his turn Stefanchuk noted that "some actions of Estonian colleagues are astonishing". In particular, he thanked Estonia for transferring to Ukraine "one third of their Javelins, which they have, in order to support our independence and democracy.
