The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova has condemned the Georgian penitentiary service's intention to transfer citizen of Ukraine, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Reforms Council under the President of Ukraine Mikhail Saakashvili from the military hospital in Gora back to prison.
"While trying to escort Mikhail became ill, as a result of which he lost consciousness. His state of health remains critical, due to which he has been unable to participate in the last three court hearings. In addition, very alarming information is being spread about Saakashvili's readiness to go on another hunger strike," said the Commissioner.
Lyudmila Denisova has repeatedly noted the need to continue treatment of Mikhail in a multi-profile civilian clinic or abroad.
"I am convinced that Ukraine should delegate its doctors and experts to establish the degree of damage caused to the health of our Saakashvili, and decide on the conditions of further treatment," the Ombudsman stressed.
Liudmila Denisova asks foreign countries and international human rights organizations to firmly condemn the actions of Georgian officials, who violate the right to life, health care and medical treatment enshrined in Article 2 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
The Ombudsman also appealed to the Minister of Justice of Georgia to ensure that Saakashvili receives qualified medical treatment at the Gora Military Hospital until he is fully recovered.
