A date has been set for possible talks between the United States and Russia, where Ukraine will be one of the main topics of discussion. The meeting is scheduled for January 10. According to "European Pravda," an official of the U.S. National Security Council said this in a commentary to the Ukrainian service of the Voice of America.
"The United States expects to participate with Russia in the Strategic Security Dialogue platform on January 10. In addition, we understand that Russia and NATO intend to hold a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council on January 12, and a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council is scheduled for the 13th," the U.S. National Security Council said.
The administration added that President Biden's approach to Ukraine is to unify the alliance around two tracks: deterrence and diplomacy.
"As an Alliance, we are united about the consequences that Russia will face if it launches an offensive in Ukraine. But we are also united in our willingness to engage in principled diplomacy with Russia," the National Security Council stressed.
During the talks, U.S. and Russian representatives are expected to discuss the security situation around Ukraine and NATO activities in Europe.
"When we sit down to negotiate, Russia can put its concerns on the table, and we will also put our concerns about Russia's activities on the table. We will stick to the principle of 'nothing about our allies and partners without our allies and partners, including Ukraine.' There will be areas" where we can make progress, and areas where we will have disagreements. This is what diplomacy is all about," the White House said.
