Washington believes that in 2021, Russia has continued to deviate from commitments it made when joining the World Trade Organization (WTO). This was reported in the office of the U.S. Trade Representative, writes UNN.
"Over the past year, Russia has continued to develop its economy along a trajectory that departs from the guiding principles of the WTO: non-discrimination, free trade, predictability, transparency and fair competition," the statement said.
The claims against Russia relate to import substitution policies and restrictions on imports of agricultural products. The statement also said the country is expanding state control over the economy. The U.S. pledged that it would "use all appropriate means to resolve this issue and keep Russian markets open for exports from the United States."
Note that in July 2021, the EU entered into a dispute with Russia in the WTO. The accusations are similar to those made by the United States. The EU said that due to Russia's import substitution policy, European companies are discriminated against when taking part in tenders.
