The director-general of the Ukrainian GTS Operator, Sergey Makogon, does not rule out that Russia will stop the physical transit of gas through Ukraine as early as this winter. This will be an open and unjustified aggression.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Makohon's interview with the Business.Censor.NET.
As Makogon noted, this is a political issue, not an economic one. "We see that in recent months pressure on Ukraine has intensified in all directions. This and the termination of the export of thermal coal to Ukraine from the Russian Federation and the pulling of troops to the border, and the blocking of coal exports from Kazakhstan," he added.
"Given all these developments, it is not ruled out that gas transit through Ukraine will also be stopped. Then all the masks will already be thrown off - it will be an open, unjustified aggression. I hope it will not come to this," Makogon said.
According to him, technologically the GTS system can work with the resources accumulated for the heating season.
"But this only applies to the operation of our GTS. If there is a big shortage of resource in the economy, or it will be too expensive, it will become a big problem," he said.
Recall, at the beginning of December 2021 the most likely Ukrainians consider the increase in gas and heat tariffs (72%) and the aggravation of the economic crisis (67%).
