The German Social Democratic Party, the Greens, and the Free Democrats officially announced the formation of a new government coalition. The presentation took place in Berlin along with the publication of the coalition agreement.
"The traffic light is on," SPD leader Olaf Scholz said at a news conference, referring to the name "traffic light coalition," which it got because of the colors of the three parties.
"We are united by the desire to make the country better. The goal of the coalition is not to find the smallest common denominator, but a policy of great effect," Scholz said.
The SPD leader will get the post of German chancellor, while Green co-chair Annalena Berbock will head the Foreign Ministry.
The new coalition has a majority in the Bundestag, and the government is expected to be sworn in in December after the parties vote on the coalition agreement.
