Getting rid of inconvenient journalists: KyivPost is closing down

The KyivPost has announced that it will "temporarily close" as of November 8, 2021. This is reported on the publication's website.

Journalist Anna Mironik said on her Facebook page that the newspaper employees went to work on November 8 and found out that they had been dismissed. She says that three weeks ago, the owner of the weekly, Odesa real estate developer Adnan Kiwan said that he planned to expand the media, which came as a surprise to the editorial staff.

Mironik says that journalists saw Kivan's statement as interference in editorial policy and the attempt to counteract the journalists provoked resistance from the owner.

According to the journalist, the termination of the publication and dismissal of the staff is the payback of Adnan Kiwan and that in this way he decided to get rid of honest and principled journalists.

Adnan Kiwan, in turn, said that he soon expects to reopen the newspaper and make it better.

KyivPost is the oldest English-language newspaper in Ukraine. In October 1995, it was founded by media magnate Jed Sunden. The weekly circulation was 7 thousand copies.
