Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova, who visited former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in Rustavi prison on Wednesday, intends to discuss the terms of his imprisonment with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"In Ukraine, I will request a meeting with the president of Ukraine in order to convey to him the information I received, including privately from Mikhail," Denisova said after visiting Saakashvili.
Denisova has also said she will apply for transferring Saakashvili to a private hospital, if necessary, as he is refusing to be hospitalized at a prison hospital, where Georgian authorities plan to send him. According to Denisova, Saakashvili refuses to be hospitalized there because the composition of prisoners in that colony is "not safe for him."
"The Georgian government should take into account the recommendations of the council and the ombudsman and transfer Mikhail Saakashvili to a civilian clinic, especially since there are precedents for this," the ombudsman said.
On Tuesday Denisova also had a meeting with Georgian Ombudsman Nino Lomjaria. She wrote about it on her Facebook page.
