Georgia calls on Kyiv to extradite two Saakashvili's associates who hold high positions in Ukraine

Georgia is calling on Kyiv to extradite two of Saakashvili's associates who hold high positions in Ukraine: Advisor to the Prosecutor General Zurab Adeishvili and Deputy Head of the Counterintelligence Service Giorgi Lortkipanidze. This is reported on the website of the Georgian government.

Tbilisi reminds that they were convicted in their home country on various charges during the presidency of Saakashvili, who is now in prison. But Ukraine has allegedly ignored extradition requests.

"The Georgian government is surprised by the decisions taken by the Ukrainian authorities, which seem to artificially drive a wedge between two historically friendly countries and peoples," the statement said.

The Georgian government expressed hope that the Ukrainian authorities would reconsider the decisions that "grossly contradict the spirit of friendship between Georgia and Ukraine, as well as between the Georgian and Ukrainian peoples."

"First of all, for the normalization of relations, it is extremely important and necessary for the Ukrainian authorities to extradite to Georgia the criminals who hold high positions in their administration," the statement reads.

It is worth noting that Adeishvili was indicted on a number of charges after the change of power in Georgia in 2012. In 2015, Adeishvili was granted political asylum in Romania, and in 2021 he renounced his Georgian citizenship. In recent years, he has been working in Ukraine. Georgian authorities have repeatedly tried to put Adeishvili on the international wanted list.

Lortkipanidze is accused of involvement in Mikheil Saakashvili's illegal crossing of the state border. The Georgian prosecutor's office claims that it was Lortkipanidze who developed the plan and route for the former president's return to his homeland.
