Scholz and Zelensky signed a security agreement (UPDATED)

Scholz and Zelensky signed a security agreement (UPDATED)

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bilateral security agreement in Berlin.

"For as long as it takes. Volodymyr Zelensky and I signed an agreement today on our long-term security commitments. This is a historic step. Germany will continue to support Ukraine in the fight against Russia's aggressive war," Scholz wrote on social network X.

Zelensky provided details of this Agreement on Security Cooperation and Long-Term Support between Ukraine and Germany.

"This is an unprecedented document that enshrines German support for Ukraine at the level of more than 7 billion euros for this year. This is a weapon for which there are already specific contracts. The agreement sets out Germany's clear position on sanctions against the aggressor, the tribunal, and frozen assets," the president wrote.

Zelensky also said that the agreement provides for "a mechanism for emergency consultations in the event of a possible future armed attack by Russia on Ukraine."

As a reminder, similar documents have already been signed with Great Britain.

Earlier, we reported that Zelensky is scheduled to travel to Paris in the evening, where he intends to sign a security agreement with French President Emmanuel Macron.
