Ukrainians are allowed to take pets to shelters during the alert

In Ukraine, it was allowed to take and stay in shelters with pets during air raid alerts. The relevant changes were made by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. This is stated in a document published in the Unified Register of State Regulations.


According to the text, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko ordered to amend the "Requirements for the Maintenance and Operation of Civil Defense Facilities".


The document states that persons arriving at the shelter with pets should be accommodated in separate rooms or separate places.


In addition, pet owners must provide:

  • constant supervision of animals;
  • necessary conditions that meet the biological, species and individual characteristics of the pet;
  • safety of surrounding people and animals, as well as property from harm to pets;
  • safety of the accompanied pet;
  • compliance with the requirements of sanitary and hygienic and veterinary norms and rules.


In addition, pets that "may pose a danger to human life or health" must be on leashes, and dogs included in the list of dangerous dog breeds must be muzzled.


The order came into force on January 25.
