Kornienko from the "Servant of the People" party: We are testing the possibility of transition to a presidential republic

First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and former leader of the "Servant of the People" party Oleksandr Kornienko said that Ukraine is currently testing a possible transition from a parliamentary-presidential to a presidential republic with a focus on a strong president. This was reported by Kyiv City Council member Victoria Ptashnyk on her Facebook account.

"We are now testing a model of transition from a parliamentary-presidential state to a presidential one with a strong president," she quoted Kornienko as saying in his speech at the Conductors of Change forum.

Kornienko did not specify who exactly is involved in this testing and how it is being carried out.

According to Ptashnyk, it was decided to test support for this initiative among the forum participants.

"The majority of those present spoke in favor of strengthening the role of parliament, and only 5-6 people spoke in favor of strengthening the role of the president," she said.

Later, Kornienko said in comments to his Facebook post that "it was said that this is happening now during martial law, because the president is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and his role is strengthened during the war."
