The Ministry of Culture filed a complaint with the police due to blocking the work of the commission in the Lavra

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy submitted a statement to the police because representatives of the UOC MP blocked the work of the commission on the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

Oleksandr Tkachenko, head of the MKIP, announced this in Telegram.

The minister reminded that today the commission did not start its work due to the fact that the representatives of the Monastery of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra could not explain who has the keys to the building. Unknown persons also prevented the commission from entering the building.

"A complaint was filed with the police for obstructing the work of the commission. The brutal behavior of representatives of the UOC-MP towards the representatives of the Commission is deeply inconsistent with their calls to God. Tomorrow, the Commission will continue its work in any case," Tkachenko said.

At the same time, the Kyiv police initiated criminal proceedings on the fact of obstructing the legal professional activity of journalists, which could have happened today on the territory of the Lavra.

"The sanction of the article (Article 171 of the Criminal Code - ed.) provides for a fine of up to fifty tax-free minimum incomes of citizens (850 hryvnias - ed.) or arrest for a term of up to six months, or restriction of freedom for a term of up to three years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing." - say the law enforcement officers.

We will remind, today representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine were not allowed to enter the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra by the parishioners of the UOC MP.

On March 29, clergymen of the Ukrainian Church of the Moscow Patriarchate were forced to leave the territory of the Lavra, but they are still fighting the eviction.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church, previously supported by the Ukrainian state, found itself on the sidelines after the government approved the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine in 2018-2019. Although the older church said it had severed ties with the Russian Orthodox Church following Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year, it still remains formally dependent on it.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, also supported the non-renewal of the UOC lease, calling it a step towards the "spiritual independence" of his country from the aggressor.
