India commissioned a new aircraft carrier with Russian aircraft

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned the first domestically built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.

This is reported by the Indian Express.

After 17 years of construction and testing, INS Vikrant has been commissioned. It is the second aircraft carrier in the country and the largest warship ever built in India.

"Today, India has joined the ranks of countries in the world that can produce such huge aircraft carriers using local technology. It is a symbol of potential, local resources and local skills," Modi said.

INS Vikrant carries 30 Russian MIG-29K carrier-based fighters. The ship is designed for a crew of 1,600. In addition, Boeing and Dassault are negotiating with India to supply more than two dozen aircraft for the new aircraft carrier.

India is one of the world's largest arms importers, spending $12.4 billion between 2018 and 2021. There are 1.38 million personnel in the Indian Armed Forces.

We previously wrote that the Indian army conducted exercises during which the military tested the capabilities of the satellite system in the event of armed conflicts.
