The Washington Post found out what Shoigu said to the head of the British Defense Ministry two weeks before the invasion of Ukraine

On February 11, 2022, British Minister of Defense Ben Wallace came to Moscow and had a private meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. The latter showed no interest in the talks, but assured that there was no plan to invade Ukraine.

Wallace wanted to ask once again whether there was room for negotiations on Putin's demands for NATO enlargement and the Alliance's activities in Western Europe.

Having received a refusal, the British minister moved on to the topic of war with Ukraine. He warned the Shoygu that Russia would run into a shalemate. "I know the Ukrainians, I have visited Ukraine nine times, and they will fight," Wallace said.

Wallace also touched on the topic of sanctions. shoigu said: "We can suffer like no one else. "I don't want anyone to suffer," the British minister said.

As the British officials were about to leave, Shoigu turned to Wallace. He looked at him in the face and said: "We have no plans to invade Ukraine.

In Wallace's words, this shows "how much of a liar the Russians were.
