National Capital City Administration of Australia (NCA), which deals with planning and management of land resources, informed Russia about the decision to terminate the lease agreement for the land where the new Russian embassy was to be built. The NCA press service wrote about it.

Russia planned to build a new embassy in Canberra instead of the current embassy in the city of Griffith. It is reported that NCA granted the lease in December 2008, and permits for the works and construction on March 31, 2011 and on November 23, 2011 respectively.

According to the lease agreement, Russia was obliged to finish construction within three years, but the project has not yet been completed. After regular consultations and negotiations with Russian representatives, as well as for lack of commitment to the completion date, NCA decided to terminate the contract, the statement said in the management.

This block is a prime location in downtown Canberra, not far from Lake Berle Graffin and the Australian Parliament Buildings.

NCA notes that the decision to terminate the lease of the land for the new embassy does not affect the Russian Embassy. Moreover, Russia can submit a new application in the future, which will be considered and properly evaluated by the Office.
