British Conservative Party MPs will hold the first round of voting on Wednesday to elect a new party leader and prime minister to replace Boris Johnson.

This is reported by the BBC.

After nominations closed on Tuesday, eight contenders will take part in a parliamentary race to win the support of their colleagues.

They need 30 votes in the first round to continue their fight for the position of Conservative leader

The candidates for leader are: Cami Badenoch, Suella Braverman, Jeremy Hunt, Penny Mordont, Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss, Tom Tugendat and Nadhim Zahavy.

Voting will begin at 3:30 p.m. Kiev time, with results expected at 7 p.m.

Subsequent rounds of voting will take place over the next few days to reduce the number of candidates to two.

Then some 160,000 Conservative Party members will choose between the two finalists, with the winner to be announced Sept. 5.

According to bookmakers, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak is leading after announcing his candidacy and remains in the lead to this day.
