Putin commented on EU plans for oil and gas embargo

A number of European countries will not be able to give up Russian oil and gas for quite a long time, Russian President Vladimir Putin said. So he commented on the plans of the EU to impose an embargo on energy resources of Russia, reports UNIAN.

"Today we see that for absolutely politically colored reasons due to their own ambitions and under pressure from the American suzerain, European countries are imposing more and more sanctions on the oil and gas markets." Putin said at a meeting on the development of the oil industry.

"The Europeans explicitly admit that they cannot yet completely abandon Russian energy resources. It is more obvious that some EU countries, the share of Russian hydrocarbons in the energy balance of which is especially high, will not be able to do it long enough to give up our oil," added the president of Russia.

Putin notes that such actions have led to a rise in energy prices.

"It seems that our Western colleagues, politicians and economists have forgotten basic economic laws or they prefer to ignore them, to their detriment. He said.

According to him, if the Russian Federation completely abandons oil and gas, Europe will become the region with the highest prices for energy resources.
