Number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine increased to 7, 1 million - UN

More than 7.1 million people have been internally displaced since Russia's attack on Ukraine on February 24. The figures are up 10 percent from the previous report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

"People continue to leave their homes because of the war, and humanitarian needs on the ground continue to grow," said IOM Director General Antonio Vitorino.

According to IOM, more than 50 percent of displaced households have children, 57 percent have elderly people, and 30 percent have people with chronic illnesses.

More than a third of displaced households, the organization said, had no income in the past month.

According to the Ministry of Social Policy on April 9, the largest number of internally displaced persons was registered in the following regions: Vinnytsia (55 thousand), Lviv (50,500), Khmelnytskyi (47,400), Poltava (46,100), Transcarpathian (44 thousand), Cherkasy (42 thousand).
