The United Kingdom has announced the freezing of the assets of seven Russian oligarchs in the amount of 15 million pounds sterling. The sanctions list included Roman Abramovich, Igor Sechin, Oleg Deripaska, Andrei Kostin, Alexei Miller, Nikolai Tokarev and Dmitry Lebedev. This was stated on the website of the British Foreign Office.
"There can be no safe haven for those who support Putin's vicious offensive against Ukraine. Today's sanctions are the latest step in Britain's unwavering support for the Ukrainian people. We will be ruthless in pursuing those who allow civilians to be killed, hospitals to be destroyed and sovereign allies to be illegally occupied," said Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The seven oligarchs will be banned from travelling to Britain and British citizens and companies will not be able to conduct joint business with them. The British Foreign Office assures that these sanctions are the latest step in the response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The sanctions imposed today will also affect the English soccer club Chelsea, owned by Roman Abramovich. The government has published a license that allows a number of sporting events at the club.
