Russian Foreign Ministry says that Nord Stream-2 has become an instrument of pressure on Moscow

The U.S. and German statements on sanctions against Nord Stream-2 in the event of an invasion of Ukraine are a "political circus" .

The Russian media reported that Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said this in a speech at the "Valdai Club".

He also said that Nord Stream 2 has become an instrument of pressure on Russia.

Earlier, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, promised to destroy the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline in case of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. According to the American leader, "everyone forgets" that Russians economy supposedly relies "only on the ability to sell oil and gas, which is the only thing Moscow has to export." If Russia is left without opportunities for such supplies, it will suffer seriously, the U.S. president added.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed that Berlin and Washington will coordinate the anti-Russian sanctions.

Recall that the "Nord Stream-2" is a pipeline of two strings. The length of each of them is 1.2 thousand kilometers. They run from the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad Region) to German Greifswald. The total annual capacity of the pipeline will be 55 billion cubic meters of gas.
