It is impossible to decide the fate of Ukraine behind its back, as such negotiations are unproductive and bound to fail. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state cannot be discussed without its participation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in an interview with CNN Türk.
According to him, any agreements regarding the end of the war must be reached exclusively at the negotiating table where the direct parties to the conflict are present.
"This is impossible. The fate of Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukraine. It would be unfair and would lead to nothing. It is illogical to negotiate the fate of a country without the presence of the country itself," Zelenskyy said.
He also noted that similar attempts had already been made in the past by other leaders, but they achieved no results.
The President also reminded everyone of Russia's failure to achieve its initial military goals, despite its status as a great power and its plans to conquer Ukraine in a few days.
"Russia, for example, considered itself great and said it would conquer Ukraine in three days. Now we are entering the fifth year of the war. For five years, Russia has been unable to conquer Ukraine," the Ukrainian President stated.
According to Zelenskyy, no foreign state has the right to discuss critical issues of sovereignty that exclusively concern the internal affairs of independent Ukraine.
