Zelensky signed a security agreement with Iceland

On May 31, President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of Iceland Bjarni Benediktsson signed an agreement on security cooperation and long-term support in Stockholm. This was reported by the Office of the President.

According to the Office, Iceland will annually allocate at least $30 million to help Ukraine in 2024-2028. Support for Ukraine will last for the entire term of the agreement, i.e. 10 years.

Iceland will finance, purchase and supply defense materials and equipment, as well as cooperate with Ukraine in the development of the defense industry.

The President's Office noted that the uniqueness of the agreement lies in the fact that Iceland undertakes to continue transporting military supplies and equipment from NATO allies to Ukraine by chartered cargo aircraft. In addition, Iceland will pay special attention to the support and equipment of women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the agreement, the country will support the “Ukrainian peace formula, sanctions against Russia, compensation for damages and bringing the aggressor to justice.” The document also refers to the strengthening of social and civilian infrastructure, particularly in the areas of education and energy security.
