Bloomberg: Xi Jinping wants to drive a wedge between Europe and the US by offering the EU more economic opportunities

Xi Jinping intends to drive a wedge between Europe and the United States. This was reported by Bloomberg.

The agency writes that for the first time in five years, the Chinese president is going to the EU with a clear message: Beijing offers Europe much more economic opportunities than the United States.

According to the Foreign Ministry in Beijing, the Chinese leader will begin his five-day trip to France, Serbia, and Hungary on May 5.

"These countries seek investment from China despitenumerous EU investigations into industrial imports from China and warnings from officials in Washington about the risks of cooperation with Beijing," the publication says.

Bloomberg writes that Xi Jinping's trip will take place as the EU gradually moves closer to Washington in countering cheap imports from China.

"I think Xi Jinping's trip is an attempt to convince Europeans that there are better options and that better relations are possible," Duncan Freeman, a lecturer in China-European relations at the Brussels School of Management in Belgium, said before Xi Jinping's trip.
