The EU has agreed to extend duty-free trade with Ukraine, but with the possibility of restrictions

The European Union has preliminarily agreed to extend duty-free trade with Ukraine for another year, but with the possibility of restrictions. This was reported by Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak on social network X.

According to him, the extension of free trade with Ukraine until June 2025 was previously supported by the EU Council, the European Commission, and the European Parliament.

This decision also provides for a "safeguard mechanism" under which quotas and duties may be reintroduced for agricultural products, namely poultry, eggs, sugar, oats, corn, cereals, and honey.

The launch of the "safeguard mechanism" will depend on the import volumes observed between mid-2021 and the end of 2023.

Now the European Parliament and the EU Council have to vote again.

Reportedly, MEPs are likely to vote during April. The full adoption procedure should take place by June 5, as the previous decision expires on that day.
