SBU detains FSB agents who were preparing a missile attack on the headquarters of the Defense Forces in Odesa region

The Security Service of Ukraine detained two citizens of one of the South Caucasus countries. They are alleged to be agents of the Russian Federal Security Service and were preparing a missile attack on the headquarters of the Defense Forces in Odesa region.

"On the instructions of the Russian special services, these individuals scouted the locations of Ukrainian troops to record their coordinates on Google maps. After establishing the geolocations of the "necessary" objects, the agents collected as much information as possible about the personnel, military equipment and peculiarities of work there," the SBU said.

The SBU said that the attackers hoped to find out where the control center and combat units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were located, in order to report on it to the Russian special services. To collect the necessary data, the foreigners walked the streets of Odesa and recorded potential targets.

In addition, the detainees decided to use their connections in the city "in the dark" as another way to collect data. They allegedly created a public organization in Odesa that allegedly provided assistance for the legalization of foreigners in Ukraine. In reality, "public organization tried to recruit citizens of other countries to create their own network of informants."

"In case of receiving intelligence, the occupiers planned to carry out a series of targeted missile and drone strikes on military infrastructure and combat positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After completing the enemy task, the agents hoped to get a job in the FSB," the SBU added.

The Security Service claims that it was able to track the routes of the suspects and detain them red-handed. Both were served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They face up to 12 years in prison.
