SBU detains man who tried to track Ukrainian Air Defense sites using drones

SBU counter-intelligence detained a man who allegedly tried to track the locations of Ukrainian Air Defense with the help of drones equipped with video cameras. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to law enforcement officers, the suspect used a messenger to transmit the information to a Russian intelligence service liaison. He turned out to be a former employee of the disbanded Berkut special police unit, who is now in Crimea.

According to the Ukrainian special service, the Russians planned to use the data to prepare sabotage and missile attacks on Mykolaiv region, in particular to fire on Ukrainian air defense systems.

The offender was detained in his own home. During the search, law enforcement officers seized reconnaissance drones that the man used to gather intelligence. In addition, law enforcement officers found substances used for the artisanal production of explosives.

According to the investigation, the offender could have been preparing an explosion at the Defense Forces facilities that were captured on his drones' cameras.

The suspect is currently in custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
