President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law on biological paternity (maternity) for the military in the event of their death. In particular, the reproductive cells of the military will be stored for several years free of charge. This is reported on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
According to the parliament's website, the president signed the law today, March 12.
From now on, reproductive cells of the military will be stored free of charge for 3 years from the moment of death. In case of expiration of the period of cell storage, it can be extended at the expense of another person designated by the soldier.
A serviceman whose reproductive cells are stored in accordance with the law has the right to dispose of them in the event of his death.
If the reproductive cells of a deceased soldier are used for conception, he or she will be recognized as the father or mother of the child born.
Earlier, a scandal broke out in Ukraine because women were legally prohibited from using the reproductive material of men killed in the war. At the same time, Ukraine was going to dispose of all the biological material of those men who died in the war.
