Turkey's Dörtyol terminal suspends operations with oil from Russia

The Turkish oil terminal in the city of Dörtyol will stop accepting cargo from the Russian Federation due to the increased sanctions pressure from the United States. This was reported by Reuters on Tuesday, March 5.

Following the imposition of Western sanctions on Moscow for Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the Russian Federation redirected oil and fuel imports from Europe and the United States to Asia, Turkey, and Africa, the agency explains.

Global Terminal Services (GTS), which operates the terminal in Dörtyol, told Reuters that at the end of February 2024 it informed customers that it was suspending all operations with Russian oil and would not accept cargo from Russia even if there was no violation of any laws. GTS emphasized that the new restrictions are an additional measure to the existing sanctions rules, and all previous operations were carried out in full compliance with the restrictive measures, including compliance with the price ceiling for fuel set by the Group of Seven countries.

At the same time, the terminal will continue to accept Russian cargoes that were declared before the ban at the end of February.

The last Russian tanker arrived at the Dörtyol terminal on February 19, delivering 511,000 barrels of diesel fuel from the Baltic port of Primorsk, according to data from the analytical company Kpler.
