General Anatoliy Bargylevych, who currently heads the Territorial Defense Forces, may become the new Chief of the General Staff. First Deputy Minister of Defense General Oleksandr Pavliuk may be appointed to the post of commander of the Ground Forces instead of Oleksandr Syrskyi. This was reported by sources in military circles.
According to one of the interlocutors, the new commander-in-chief has "very good" relations with both Pavliuk and Bargylevych. And both had already had experience working with Syrskyi.
At the same time, one of the publication's sources said that as of the morning, the option of appointing Pavliuk to the post of chief of the General Staff was being discussed, but "everything could be replayed in a matter of hours."
Pavliuk, Bargylevych, Komarenko and Malyar: who could be in the new chief's team.
"Bargylevych was in charge of the Gostomel direction during the defense of Kyiv region, and for almost a year and a half he was the head of the Khortytsia unit headed by Syrskyi. Therefore, this appointment seems quite logical," the source explained.
In addition, according to the publication, another general, Oleksandr Komarenko, may be appointed to the position of the head of the Main Operational Directorate - Deputy Chief of the General Staff. He also worked with both Bargylevych and Syrskyi. Komarenko is now the head of the operational department of the headquarters of the Ground Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Also, according to the sources, former Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar may get one of the civilian positions, as she wants to be responsible for media communications in the new chief of staff's team.
As a civilian, she may be considered for the position of strategic communications advisor to the Chief of Defense. However, there is no final decision on this appointment yet.
