Zelenskyy signed a law on simplifying the write-off of military property

On February 6, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law on simplifying the procedure for writing off military property in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is reported in the card of the relevant draft law No. 10039 on the parliament's website.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted it four months ago, at the beginning of October 2023.

The document allows during martial law to write off property assigned to a military unit worth up to UAH 1.7 million by order of the commander. This does not require any approvals or authorizations. This applies to the entire range of military property - from first aid kits to drones, but excluding weapons.

In most cases, the commander of the military unit will decide whether to investigate the circumstances of the loss of property or not.

If the property was lost as a result of hostilities, it is written off in a single act with a description of the event and a list. It must be signed by at least two participants or witnesses of the event (if available) and approved by the commander of the relevant branch of the Armed Forces. Specific deadlines have been set for the command to make decisions so that these documents do not accumulate and hang around.

The law comes into force on the day following its publication. To implement it, the Ministry of Defense must develop relevant bylaws.
