The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine (OPGU) has instructed the employees of the State Bureau of Investigation to investigate the case of surveillance of Bihus.Info journalists. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the OPGU.
According to law enforcement officials, the SBI will conduct a pre-trial investigation into the criminal proceedings, which were initiated after a representative of the Bihus.Info journalistic office reported the illegal installation and use of covert means of obtaining information in a suburban complex in a countryside complex in Kyiv region.
"Given that law enforcement officers are allegedly involved in the commission of this criminal offense, the pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the State Bureau of Investigation," the OPGU said.
In his turn, Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said that violations of journalists' rights are subject to careful consideration and appropriate response.
The Prosecutor General's Office reminded that a platform for the protection of journalists' rights had been launched earlier. Within its framework, law enforcement officers discuss such situations with journalists.
The last meeting of prosecutors and journalists took place in January 2024, and the next one will be held in the near future.
