Lviv region was the first in Ukraine to complete the process of decommunization. Over the course of more than a year, 312 Soviet monuments have been dismantled in the region. This was announced during a briefing at the Lviv Regional Military Administration.


The work on clearing the region of Soviet monuments lasted more than a year, and a special working group was created for this purpose. The dismantled objects include reliefs depicting Soviet soldiers, obelisks and steles.


"This is a historic event not only for the Lviv region, but for the whole of Ukraine. We have done the homework that our parents did not do 30 years ago and completely cleared the region of Soviet communist markers. Lviv region became the first such region in Ukraine, and we would like to see this process spread to other regions," said Zakhar Milianyk, a member of the Lviv Regional Council, a member of the working group at the Lviv Regional State Administration, and the head of the inter-factional association "For the Decommunization of Lviv Region" in the Lviv Regional Council.
